In a recent email Mr. Rob Duke of Kitchener Ontario inquired as to the possibility
of entering the
lake trout in the attached picture in the Temagami Stewardship Council’s
Trophy Fish Contest. I
regrettably had to inform him that the contest had ceased with the demise of
the Stewardship Council in
2008.

Mr. Duke hooked the Lake Trout this summer during his annual fishing trip to
Temagami. The
fish weighed 21lbs, had a girth of 22 inches, and was 40 inches in length. It
was caught it in the Northern
Arm while trolling with lead core line, a jet diver using a hammered spoon.
After about 3 minutes of
reviving, the fish swam away.
Although I could not provide Mr. Duke with a contest entry I did sincerely thank
him for the
release of the trophy lake trout. The release of such a genetically superior
fish does more to enhance the
fishery than any other strategy that could be impimented.
